About the Atelier
A quiet collection,
kept for the
devoted few.
Exceptional Feathers began, as most good things do, in a small back room. A collector's drawer that grew too full; a circle of tyers asking where I'd found this or that material; a quiet realisation that what I'd been gathering for myself might be worth offering to others who care about the same things.
The collection is small by design. I source slowly, from trusted contacts in Europe, the Americas and Asia. Every lot is hand-graded and individually sleeved at my bench before it leaves. There are no warehouses, no algorithms, no overnight scaling. There is a man, a lamp, and a magnifying glass.

The Bench
Where every feather
passes through hand.
Sorting is slow, deliberate work. Pairs are matched by curve and marking. Crests are checked against the light for any break in iridescence. Imperfect feathers are set aside. What you receive has been chosen, not picked.
The Tyer
Built around the
great patterns.
The collection is shaped above all by the classical salmon fly: the Jock Scott, the Durham Ranger, the Silver Doctor, the Black Doctor. If a feather is called for in the great patterns, it is the kind of feather we look for.
